Anthropic · The Coding-Agent Era
Claude Code
Anthropic's official CLI coding agent. Long-horizon refactors, tool-use harness, MCP server support.
By C.W. Jameson · Published 19 May 2026 · Last reviewed 19 May 2026
Claude Code is the harness that turns Claude into something more like an engineering colleague than a chat partner. It manages its own context, plans before executing, runs your tests, and stops to check before doing anything destructive. Operators who care about correctness on long-running refactors find it the most disciplined of the coding agents.
Field signature
Will write 'On it' or 'Let me check…' before tool calls. Asks permission before destructive operations.
