Google DeepMind · The Long-Context Stretch
Gemini 1.5 Pro
The model that proved 1M-token context was practical. Video and audio native.
By C.W. Jameson · Published 19 May 2026 · Last reviewed 19 May 2026
Gemini 1.5 Pro launched in February 2024 with a 1-million-token context window. The practical implication was immediately clear: operators could now feed an entire codebase, a year of email archives, or a feature-length film into a single call. The multimodal breadth (text, image, audio, video, PDF) in a single model was not matched by any competitor at the time of its release.
