Copilot was the first commercial coding agent and remains the most-deployed. Distribution through GitHub gave it a starting line every competitor envies. Capability tracks whatever model GitHub has wired (currently a mix of GPT-class and Anthropic models). Operators who already pay GitHub keep it; operators who don't moved to Cursor or Claude Code.
